Kiln Cookies - The Perfect Safety Catch for Drippy Glazes

What's a Kiln Cookie?  It's the perfect pre-fired bisque disc designed to catch any possible drips caused by thick or experimental glazes.

Kiln cookies are approximately 2" (small), 4" (medium), and 6" (large) pre-fired clay discs designed to safeguard our kiln shelves from dripping glaze.  Glaze vitrifies and essentially turns to glass.  Sometimes, glazes that are applied too thickly can run down the item and fuse your artwork to the kiln shelf.  Separating your work from the kiln shelf usually damages both.  A kiln cookie protects the shelves and is much easier to remove from your piece.

Members who bring in outside glazes to the Hub Studio are always required to use a Kiln Cookie in the glaze firing.
